Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management which uses pest and environmental information in combination with our pest control methods to eliminate pests by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment. IPM is not a single pest control method but, rather, a series of pest management evaluations, decisions and controls:

* Inspection – Assessing Your Situation

* Identification – Preventing Future Infestations

* Investigation – Exploring Contributing Conditions

* Recommendations – Preventing Future Infestations

* Implementation – Non-Chemical Solutions

* Application – Targeting Treatment Options

Emphasis is placed on pest control education, inspection, pest identification, sanitation, communication and cooperation of the customer. The focus of the pest control program is Preventive Maintenance which is achieved by identifying and eliminating conditions which are conducive to supporting pest populations. Certified Pest Control takes advantage of all appropriate pest management options including, but not limited to, the judicious use of pesticides.

The square footage of a Michigan basement, attic and crawl space may run the full length of your home. Attics, basements and crawl spaces are ideal places for harboring and nesting insects and rodent (including squirrels, etc.). Depending on the season, these major areas may be hot, dark, humid and even wet and in the colder months these areas are places for animals to find safe harbor.

Michigan homeowners may regularly enter their basement and not even be aware of existing problems or areas of concern. When was the last time you were in your attic or crawl space?

Here at CPC, over the last thirty years, we have seen it all. Bee’s nest, rodent droppings, air conditioning problems, mold, rotting beams or a leaky roof are just the start of the issues to be aware of and their potential harm to the health of your family and home.

To maintain a safe and clean home environment, “CPC’s Preventive Maintenance Plan” is a customized pest control inspection and treatment plan for your home. Our plan has been most effective for maintaining a safe and clean home environment. Not only does it help you to maintain an insect free home, our inspections have saved our customers thousands of dollars over the years.

Pests are a reality of everyday life. There are over 94,000 species of pests in the United States. No matter how clean you keep your home pests will find a way in.

Although some pests are helpful to our environment, and others only general annoyances, many spread disease, aggravate allergies and cause physical damage to your home. Insects and rodents account for billions of dollars in damage each year.

Your home provides a perfect environment for pests to flourish by providing food, water or moisture, warmth, and a hiding place (harborage area). It is important to understand the areas of your home that are most susceptible to pest activity.

The exterior of your home is the pest’s natural environment and contains numerous pest harborage areas. Small stress cracks and improperly sealed windows and doors can provide easy access to the interior of your home. Also, pests can easily gain access through improperly sealed attics, crawl spaces or gaps in plumbing services.

Eliminating pest harborages, sealing cracks, screening all vents, keeping weather-stripping in good repair and maintaining good sanitation both inside and out are all essential in winning the “war on bugs.” When surveying your property for intruders look for tree branches or heavy plant growth and trim these back to prevent harborages or pathways to your structure. Trash cans should always be covered by lids which give a tight seal. Keep heavy ground covers thinned as they make convenient hiding places for rodents.

Common pest control techniques can often compound the problem by re-routing pest activity. The misapplication of chemicals can cause the formation of new nests, as well as potentially contaminating your environment. If choosing to handle pest control issues on your own, be careful. Misuse of insecticides and baits are common among do-it-yourselfers and can be risky around children and pets. Make sure to read and follow label directions carefully. Never increase dosages thinking more is better. It is not!

If you find pest problems beyond your ability or desire to control, call the experts at Certified Pest Control. We will be happy to advise you and give you the best possible solution to your problem. More importantly, you can leave the handling, application and storage of insecticides to us. Certified Pest Control will protect your environment from unwanted pests and give you peace of mind.

Our goal here at Certified is to control pests without adversely affecting our customer’s environment. In order to achieve this goal, our trained professionals utilize Reduced Risk methods, the most effective materials available and limit the total volume of materials used indoors. These pest control procedures allow us to provide our customers with a pest free environment while addressing concerns of possible exposure to young children and pets.

According to the American Society of Home Inspectors, approximately 38% of homes suffer from mold and fungus growth due to excessive moisture.

National media attention has alerted the public to the destructive and possible toxic dangers of hidden mold spores that could affect their family’s health and their homes. EPA studies indicate that air levels of indoor pollutants may be two to three times higher than outdoor levels.

Mold, the most dangerous offender of all, often goes undetected because of its invisibility. Most people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors and are not aware of the health hazards created by these spores.

Since there has been media attention surrounding mold, prospective home buyers want a home that has been tested for mold. Mold sampling has become a standard practice during a home inspection. You should not buy a home with mold, sell a home with mold, or live in a home with mold. A mold inspector is your first line of defense. CPC inspectors are experienced and trained to detect any signs of an unhealthy environment.
